New 128K ’grimdark’ fantasy adventure from Andy Remic!

-

Author and filmmaker Andy Remic has just released a new 128K text adventure game based on his 2013 grimdark fantasy novel The Iron Wolves. Orlana the Changer has escaped her prison and is mounting an army of unspeakable evil that she intends to use to conquer the lands of Vagandrak. In the game, you take on the role of Dek the Pitfighter, once the legendary hero of Vagandrak, who must find and attempt to reunite his old friends, once a fearsome band of heroes who held back the mud-orcs at the Pass of Splintered Bones. These now forgotten bunch of warriors have become corrupted by the horrors of the world they live in — so the task won’t be easy!

As well as text, the game features some

lovely graphics for many of its locations that have all been provided by the legendary Clive Townsend of Saboteur fame.

Released on cassette, The Iron Wolves has been published and released by online software house Cronosoft. Being a violent and bloody grimdark fantasy, the game carries an ‘18’ certificate rating — a first for the ZX Spectrum, as far as I’m aware. I’m currently playing through the adventure as we speak and enjoy the dark atmosphere and violent tone, which has been an exciting and enjoyable shift from your usual text adventure affair. I’ll be sure to bring you all a full review next issue!
