THE STAGING OF CAROLINE’S MURDER

In what has now become infamous footage, a weeping Anagnostopoulos stood outside his home the morning after he told police his wife had been murdered by thieves, and spoke at length to reporters. The pilot told of the “nightmare” he had experienced, telling them, “It was shortly after five. I saw three hooded men. One was tall. They shouted and threatened us in broken Greek.” He continued, “They tied me to a chair and then went on to my wife. When I managed to break free, I rushed upstairs to the attic to find my wife on the floor facing down, and the baby next to her, wailing.” Almost immediately, police launched a major manhunt for the alleged gang and offered a £260k reward for information. But what we now know is that his words were the barefaced lies of a killer, who had faked a robbery and strangled his wife.
