EL CHAPO WIFE PLEADS GUILTY TO DRUG RUNNING
The wife of imprisoned cartel boss El Chapo has admitted to helping run his criminal empire. After being arrested in February this year and taking a plea deal, Emma Coronel Aispuro, 31, admitted her guilt at Washington DC federal court last month. Among the charges against her were distributing heroin, cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine for a period of at least six years, and one count of money laundering. She also confessed to aiding one of her husband’s infamous jailbreaks in 2015. It is thought she agreed a deal with prosecutors for a reduced sentence, otherwise she would have been facing life behind bars. Aispuro, a former beauty queen, will remain in custody until she is sentenced in September. She married El Chapo – real name Joaquín Guzmán – in 2007, when she was 18 and he was 50.
