FRED & ROSE WEST: THE SEARCH FOR THE VICTIMS

MY5, STREAMING NOW

- Amber Connolly

After the recent excavation of a café in Gloucester in the hope of finding the remains of Mary Bastholm – one of Fred West’s suspected victims – it’s no surprise documentaries about the serial killer and his murderous wife Rose have been popping up on our screens again. The infamous couple tortured and killed at least 12 young women in the 1970s and ’80s at 25 Cromwell Street, which has since been dubbed the “House of Horrors”. Among the victims were Fred’s daughter Charmaine and the couple’s first child together, Heather, making the murders all the more shocking. Two-parter Fred And Rose West: The Search For The Victims recounts these horrific crimes, featuring exclusive witness testimony from those closest to the victims, as well as rarely seen archive footage and recordings of police interviews. Despite Rose being convicted of ten counts of murder in 1995, and Fred taking his own life while awaiting trial that same year, stories of their dark past are still being told 27 years after they were arrested. But in addition to recapping the crimes and remembering those whose lives were cruelly taken, this documentary is a reminder there are many suspected victims who are yet to be found, and many grieving families who still need answers. ★★★
