- Matthew Hurrell

On the night of 9 October 1999, 19-year-old Rocío Wanninkhof left her boyfriend’s house in La Cala de Mijas on Spain’s Costa Del Sol to walk the half-kilometre to the home she shared with her sister Rosa, mum Alicia, and her mum’s former partner Maria Dolores Vazquez. She was due to meet her boyfriend later that evening, but she never made it. Alicia found her daughter’s trainers – along with bloodstains – on a path near their house the next day. Tragically, Rocío’s body was found 30km away in Marbella a few weeks later. She had been beaten and stabbed. Police arrested Alicia’s former girlfriend Maria, who was eventually found guilty of Rocío’s murder and sentenced to 15 years, despite a lack of physical evidence. Then, in 2003, another teenage girl was murdered. Featuring interviews and new evidence, this feature-length docu examines whether a killer may have been left to roam free. ★★★★
