Homicide Hunter

CRIME + INVESTIGATION PLAY, STREAMING NOW

- Daisy Hall

This US documentary series ran from 2011 to 2020, and followed the career of now-retired Colorado Springs detective Joe Kenda. He joined the department in 1973, and was eventually assigned to the homicide division before becoming commander of the department’s major crimes unit. Narrated by Joe in his laconic style – complete with memorable one-liners such as, “If you’re going to be a liar, you should at least have the decency to be good at it” – and featuring re-enactments and interviews with witnesses, as well as friends and family of the victims and Joe himself, the show takes you through nearly all of Joe’s cases, including many that other veteran detectives believed were unsolvable. Of the 356 cases that Joe solved, the most gripping but gruesome include the case of Dianne Hood, who was murdered in 1990 at a lupus support group by an attacker who took her purse; and that of a triple homicide, in which one of the victims was a five-year-old boy. All nine series are now available to stream via Crime + Investigation Play for you to work your way through. ★★★★
