Deception

ALIBI, FROM 23 JULY, 9PM

- Matthew Hurrell

After his career is ruined by a scandal, Vegas illusionist Cameron Black (Tenet’s Jack Cutmore-scott) finds his skills of deception, sleight-of-hand and influence in demand by the FBI. An enjoyable mix of 2013 heist movie Now You See Me, Numbers, and cult noughties series Leverage, each self-contained episode sees Black take on a new case with the help of Special Agent Kay Daniels (Ilfenesh Hadera), and his producer and make-up artist Dina (Being Human’s Lenora Crichlow). The opening episode sees Cameron recruited by the FBI after he notices that the death of a drug lord might not be all that it seems. Running throughout the series is the recurring storyline of Cameron trying to solve who framed his twin Jonathan (also played by Cutmore-scott) for a fatal car crash years earlier. Vinnie Jones also stars as Gunter Gustafsen, “The world’s greatest illusion builder”, and Titanic’s Billy Zane pops up as mysterious artist Switch. ★★★★
