Is it safe to go on a cruise? Will I need to wear a mask and what other protocols can I expect on board?
Andy Harmer, managing director of Cruise Lines International Association (Clia) UK & Ireland Cruise sailings have restarted thanks to collaboration between the industry itself, government, health authorities and ports, and since lines resumed operations, nearly ve million guests have enjoyed a cruise worldwide.
Health measures both on and off ships now go beyond any other travel sector – for instance, our cruise line members have agreed to 100% testing of passengers and crew, with a negative test needed before boarding. The cruise industry was the rst in the travel and tourism sector to commit to this level of testing worldwide.
On domestic cruises, all lines must apply social distancing guidelines, consistent with shoreside health authority requirements. Guests must also adhere to the safety and wellbeing directions of the ship they are on, such as face coverings in some areas.
