KATY PERRY NAMED NCL GOD MOTHER
Pop star and host of American Idol Katy Perry (above, left) has been named godmother of Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest ship, Norwegian Prima.
The star will perform at the christening in Reykjavik on August 27 – the first time the Icelandic capital has hosted a ship naming – prior to Prima’s maiden voyage.
“We are so excited to welcome Katy Perry, and proud that she will be part of the Norwegian Cruise Line family,” said Harry Sommer, president and chief executive of NCL.
Perry said cruising was her “favourite” type of holiday. She added: “Every morning you wake up, you get to experience an incredible new view.”
Norwegian Prima will sail from Southampton to northern Europe, from New York to Bermuda and from Galveston, Texas, to the Caribbean in its maiden season.
Seabourn has also announced mountaineer and polar explorer Alison Levine (above, right) as godmother of expedition vessel Seabourn Venture, which launches in July.
Levine captained the first American Women’s Everest Expedition in 2022, worked on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s California governor campaign, wrote a New York Times bestseller and is a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honour.
