Council approves plans to upgrade camping site

-

PLANS for upgrades to a camping site near Auchinleck have been given the green light by council planners.

Lauren Houfe and Aaron Hay, owners of Hillend Camping, were seeking permission to provide sheperd huts, a shower block, a sewage treatment plant and space to accommodate eight motor homes at the site.

Initial plans for upgrades at the site were approved back in November but the latest application, lodged by agents Lighthouse Architecture, is a revision of that proposal.

It sought permission from East Ayrshire Council (EAC) for a “change of use” of part of the farmland adjacent to the existing campsite.

The new proposals will see further additions to the non-electric, pop-up campsite just off the B705 to the north of Auchinleck.

The site currently has four camping pitches to go along with its hot water and washing-up facilities.

It also offers spaces for non-electric motorhomes and grass campervan pitches.

According to a planning statement attached to the submission, “this proposed [revised] application includes a series of elements across the site”, including two new shepherd huts.

It adds: “For use of motorhomes and campsite there will be an onsite shower block which provides hot showers and sanitary. Waste will run off to the proposed sewage treatment plant, a waste tank will be installed for the use of motorhomes on site.

“To allow for additional motorhomes to be located the proposal is to allow for a hardstanding providing access to eight motor homes. Grassed areas will be retained adjacent to motor homes allowing for parking of any vehicles.

“To allow for separation between both motor homes and camping we have proposed an area of hedge planting which will create a screen and provide an informal boundary.”

Plans were approved by EAC officials on March 13.
