-

AUCHINLECK Talbot’s thrilling West of Scotland Premier Division match at the weekend was watched by several famous faces.

Tommy Sloan’s men came out 4-3 winners over St Cadoc’s on Saturday, thanks to a late winner from Jamie Glasgow.

The regular spectators got a treat on Saturday, but there were some VIPs in attendance, according to social media.

Ayrshire’s very own Billy Gilmour, along with his Scotland team-mates Lewis Ferguson and Lawrence Shankland were pictured taking in the match in at New Tinto Park in Govan.

The trio had all featured for Scotland the previous night in the 4-0 friendly defeat by the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

Gilmour in particular is a well-known face across Ayrshire, having trained with Glenafton during the close season in previous years to keep himself in trim while back home visiting family.

The victory means Talbot keep pace with the leaders at the top end of the table, sitting in fourth place and 10 points behind leaders Clydebank, who have played six more games than Talbot.

The win puts the Beechwood Park side on 38 points from 20 games, while St Cadoc’s remain third after with 39 points from 23 games. Reigning champions Beith are second, on 40 points from 20.

Scotland’s players will be hoping to replicate the thrills of Talbot’s match when they take on Northern Ireland in a friendly at Hampden Park on Tuesday evening.

Talbot, though, will be hoping for a more straightforward match when they travel to Darvel on Wednesday night - the latest in a series of huge matches for Sloan’s side, who also play host to Beith on Saturday, March 30.
