CROWDS descended on Dumfries House once again last weekend for the return of the popular Boswell Book Festival.
The much-loved event saw hundreds of people tune in to the various authors who were speaking.
The festival, named in honour of local writer, James Boswell, the inventor of modern biography, is held at Dumfries House annually.
Every year, hundreds of keen book-goers from across Ayrshire and far beyond turn out to enjoy the festival and the big names who appear on each year’s programme.
This year’s events included Ayrshire-born Rose Reilly, who became the only Scottish person to have won a football world cup, while playing for Italy in 1983.
Also star billing on the opening evening are the first of this year’s festival poets, former Scottish Makar Jackie Kay, and one of the UK’s finest comedic actors, Doon Mackichan- well known for appearing on Two Doors Down.
Caroline Knox created the Boswell Book Festival in 2011, and has seen it grow from a handful of visitors to an event that attracts hundreds of people and many A-list authors every year.
The festival director said: “It’s amazing to see how much it’s come on since 2011.
“We started with a handful of authors and now we’ve got hundreds of people watching these events right across the world.
“I think people like how wide a variety there is every year, and there seems to be something for everyone.”
Those who missed out on the event can still catch up on all the festival talks this year with the likes of Patrick Grant, Tom Holland, Rory Stewart, John Curtice, Jackie Kay, John Niven, the two amazing veterans from WWll, Olga Henderson and Patricia Owtram, and so many more.
