HTC Vive Pro available for pre-order
HTC’s latest virtual reality headset, the Vive Pro, is now available to pre-order from www.overclockers.co.uk. The new headset significantly upgrades the resolution of the screens, going from 1,080 x 1,200 in the original Vive (and Oculus Rift) to 1,440 x 1,600 per eye, giving you a total resolution of 2,880 x 1,600. Like the Vive, it also runs at a 90Hz refresh rate, so you’re going to need some seriously beefy graphics hardware to consistently run games at that resolution at 90fps.
HTC points out that the increase in resolution on the 3.5in AMOLED screens effectively bumps up the number of pixels per inch by 37 per cent, hopefully reducing the lack of close-up detail experienced with the original Vive.
Among the Vive Pro’s other new features are 3D spatial audio via integrated headphones, as well as claims of improved comfort and ergonomics. The Vive Pro also dispenses with the HDMI input used on the Vive, instead connecting via DisplayPort 1.2. It’s not cheap, though, with the pre-order price set at £799 inc VAT.
