Haibike Trekking 6

With a well-considered balance between power and practicality, this is a bike as happy on the daily commute as riding at the weekend

-

With Haibike’s Trekking 6 you have a build that many UK bike buyers are finding to be something of a sweet spot – a reasonably fast bike on the tarmac that is more than useful for the daily commute, but will also find itself happily climbing through the forest on a summer’s afternoon.

It is both weekday and weekend warrior, but with a slight tilt towards the former, as indicated by the standard spec including extras such as mudguards and a pannier rack that’ll take a piece of luggage either side. There’s also a kickstand added on so that you needn’t risk your paintwork on stops.

It’s further kitted out to a high degree as standard thanks to the inclusion of a generously specced set of lights feeding power from the battery system. At the front, Haibike’s Skybeamer 150 kicks out more than enough light for the typical urban environment and could happily exist as a backup for darker unlit routes off the beaten track. The rear light is discreetly seated in the luggage rack and above the mudguard.

Powering your assistance is a high-torque Yamaha motor built to lift you efficiently when you require help, and to back off when the sensors detect your own input relaxing. At 500Wh the battery is more than capable of going the distance for a few scenic routes home if desired, but should also last the working week on a charge if your commute is a fairly average and uneventful jaunt.

The combination of a 27.5- inch wheel, a tyre choice offering reasonably large volume and a short travel SR Suntour fork should be up to the task of ironing out the odd bump in the track or gravel path should you choose to embrace the weekend warrior.
