Thok MIG-R

If it’s an all-mountain trail conqueror you’re seeking the Thok MIG-R really delivers on offroad performance and fun when pointed either up or down the hill

-

A good place to start with the Thok MIG- R is its Shimano battery and motor system, which is uncompromising for this kind of off- road pursuit. The 85Nm EP8 motor is tuned for the trail and so will be quick off the mark when you begin to pedal, regardless of the terrain or trail conditions.

Aside from the responsive feel of feedback, it’s designed with a low profile, giving plenty of clearance across obstacles such as rock gardens where systems can be vulnerable. At 2.6kg, it’s not adding much weight either.

The battery system, where a lot of the bike’s weight lies, is placed low on the down tube to keep the centre of gravity low, which in tandem with slack 66- degree head angle inspires a planted feel on the trail at speed. Enhancing that rider confidence is a quirk of Thok’s design, the ‘Mullet wheels’ concept. This idea sees a smaller 27.5in wheel sit at the rear and a larger 29in up front, the perks of which include enhanced traction and the ability to eat up larger bumps on the front wheel.

A pairing of Fox Factory suspension ups the forgiveness of impacts at speed, with 150mm of front travel giving enough control to handle slopestyle obstacles in confidence. At the rear, Fox’s DPS rear shock utilises a dual-piston damper with a three-position switch to cover everything from uphill rigidity when you need an efficient climber to a fully opened setting that removes chatter and shrugs off harsh landings. Likewise, the inclusion of an 150mm Thok dropper post supports your efforts climbing at full length, falling away underneath you at the push of a handlebar remote.
