Moustache Dimanche 28.3

An understated take on the electric road bike with plenty of thought given to rider comfort

-

A first glance the Dimanche 28.3 may look like just another racing bike with an electric motor tucked away at the base of the frame. It is only on closer inspection that you begin to realise that Moustache has managed to achieve this in a way that looks far less extreme than other examples.

Yes, the Dimanche 28.3 has an aluminium frame but the geometry is more relaxed than that of racier frames. Carbon forks may be a familiar sight on race bikes, but in this case, as with the frame, there is clearance for mudguards and space for large capacity tyres. The bike comes fitted with Continental 700 x 32 Ultra Sport III tyres, but there’s room to go up to a 40c tyre and still clear mudguards.

The theme of providing increased rider comfort while maintaining the performance aesthetic continues with the choice of handlebar. Here Moustache has specced a shallow drop design with a gentle flare, which coupled with the short stem results in a less stretched out and extreme riding position. Instead, what you get is a position that allows you to get out of the wind without needing to visit a chiropractor after a long ride.

Another clue to the more relaxed nature of the Dimanche 28.3 is the range of gearing Moustache provides. The crankset features 50 and 34t chainrings that work with the 11-34t, 10- speed cassette at the back wheel to make the most of the assistance from the Bosch Active Line Plus system,

As can be seen here, Moustache has taken the bold and indeed welcome move of offering the Dimanche 28.3 in both conventional and open frame designs. While step-through frames have traditionally been aimed at female riders, these days they are widely acknowledged as being unisex in that they allow less flexible riders an easier way of getting into the saddle that doesn’t require swinging a leg over the back of it.
