Jackknife

This jackknife routine addresses many of the key core areas needed to improve stability on the bike. ■ Start by lying on your back and raise your feet and arms so they are hovering just above the ground. ■ Bend your knees and hips so that your knees come up to your chest. At the same time, keeping your arms straight, move your arms towards your knees so they overlap. ■ Hold both at the mid point of your body for a second, then lower both down to the starting position without touching the floor. ■ Repeat the exercise for eight repetitions and three sets, increasing or reducing sets and repetitions over time. This can also be done with an exercise ball or with a TRX but with your body facing the floor rather than the ceiling and with your hands on the ground at a 90° angle as support.
