Why 107? The meaning behind the number
Chris Hall’s feat of endurance wasn’t purely for the physical challenge. At the heart of his challenge was the aim to raise awareness and money for the Pace Centre, a school for children born with motor neurone diseases and cerebral palsy. The distance of 107km held a special meaning in relation to the charity.
“There are 107 kids at Pace,” Hall explains. “Think of the 107 families that require support: every child at Pace has a carer and every class has about five or six kids with a teacher. So they have to be really heavily staffed.”
Hall has a personal link to the centre, for which he has raised nearly £9,000.
“Ripcor, one of the clubs I ride with, has been fundraising for the centre for 11 years, raising nearly £1m. Two of my friends have kids who go to Pace — knowing them personally provided a double incentive.” www.thepacecentre.org
