CW TRIES... Healthy takeaways

-

The ultimate in hassle-free post-ride eating is the healthy takeaway. Fitness ed David Bradford dines like an oligarch for a dayé The recipes featured here take 10-20 minutes to prepare, which is pretty quick, but if you’re extremely pressed for time and happy to splash out on an even quicker solution, there’s always the option of ordering in. These days, there are all kinds of food suppliers ready and willing to cook your meal and deliver it direct to your door — including many companies claiming to offer healthy options.

I sampled a day’s eating provided by Spring Green London (springgreenlondon.com, from £36 per day, only available in London). All the food — three meals, plus drinks and snack — are delivered fresh and fully prepared the night before. My package was described as “Botanical Superfood Radiance Programme: Active”, which comprised “Beauty Tonic” (flavoured water); “Raw Detox Juice” (fruit juice); breakfast — coconut waffles with matcha and coconut yoghurt; lunch — beet balls with cashew nut sauce, rice noodles and green beans; snack — roasted beans and peas; and evening meal — baked feta and garlic mushrooms with black rice. To be clear, the prissy jargon with its overtones of ‘clean eating’ puritanism had my hackles rising straight away, but the food tasted really great, especially the beet balls and noodles for lunch. It’s not cheap — you could almost eat out thrice daily for the same money, but it’s aimed at the premium end of the market. More affordable rivals include Deliveroo and Eat First.
