Ross Lamb, 22
T.palm-pole Continental Wallon, Veerle, Belgium
Back in Belgium?
I had a chance to sign for a UK Conti team but I said to myself before I started on this journey that if I want to be a pro, I want to live in Europe. I don’t want to be riding crits or National Bs and I learned so much in Belgium last year and got a few wins.
Good start to the season?
I’ve been making almost every racewinning move so far this season and then at the weekend I won my first race, a kermesse in Wallonne. Before the race, my team-mate Adam Lewis and I agreed that if the race was still together before the last climb, we’d attack. We did that with another guy and I finished first, with Adam second.
Do you and Adam have a good partnership?
We live together, train together and ride for the same team. We both know how to win a race and last year I helped him win some races and vice versa.
Why the good start?
I put it down to the accumulation of races from last year. I would be riding the Donny chain-gang and people would be telling me how strong I was and I hadn’t even trained much.
Are you a marked man?
Definitely this season, if I change gear or get out of the saddle, people notice and are on me.
Season aims?
I was speaking to Mark Mcnally and he said I should aim to win UCI 1.2s and try and get in the breaks in .1s. I’m only looking a week ahead instead of the long term. Any win in Belgium is something that people rate.
