2013 Stage 8, 88km London > London

Cycling Weekly - - TOUR OF BRITAIN -

4 Bradley Wiggins’s 2013 had been plagued by misfortune: illness forced his abandonment of the Giro d’italia and injury meant he couldn’t defend his Tour de France crown. The Tour of Britain was his chance to salvage something from the year and he did just that, winning a 16km time trial on stage three and the overall race in London.

“Having Bradley winning along Whitehall was the cherry on the cake for our 10th anniversary of bringing the race back,” Bennett says. What they said... Wiggins described his victory as a “relief”, while stage winner Mark Cavendish said: “I never thought I’d see this many people at a British bike race.” The Guardian’s William Fotheringham opined: “This Tour of Britain will live long in the minds of home cycling fans.”
