Cycling Weekly - - TOUR OF BRITAIN -

5 The race’s first summit finish took the peloton to the high moors of Devon, with a 3.6mile ascent of the climb of Haytor. Race leader Bradley Wiggins, Dan Martin and Nairo Quintana were among a lead group of nine, when, with one kilometre to go, 21-year-old Great Britain rider Simon Yates jumped clear to announce himself to the world.

Bennett recalls: “It was a surprise to see Simon Yates there, this national rider taking on and beating Worldtour and Pro Continental riders.” What they said... The win shocked the Bury man as much as everyone else: “I still didn’t believe it until I looked behind a few metres before the line. I’m ecstatic. It’s one of my best victories. With the company there, you can’t get much better.”
