Biddenden
Biddenden is just one of many picturesque villages along today’s route. The Georgian houses and peaceful village centre perfectly complement the rural riding in these parts.
Challock Hill
Averages six per cent and peaks at 11 per cent. It isn’t a gut-buster, but is still challenging. The view at the top, across to the High Weald of Kent to the south, is glorious.
Quiet roads
Kent is home to a number of major transport hubs. But this ride through the Garden of England on tranquil roads, is flanked by endless farmland full of ripening fruit.
Favourite cafe
The Square Fish cafe which doubles as a takeaway fish and chip shop — serving some of the largest portions of fish that
Cycling Weekly has seen on a club run — is situated in the typically picturesque Kentish village of Lenham. The new restaurant area has ample seating for big groups, and a slightly more upmarket menu than the original cafe, although more typical fry-up options can occasionally be negotiated, even if they don’t appear on the new menu. Other, non-fish, options are available, and there is also a good selection of tea, coffee and even local beers.
