Up in the air with e-bikes
I have an Orbea Gain D10 e-bike which weighs just 13kg. I’m 76 and this bike makes a massive difference to my cycling enjoyment in many ways. I like cycling on the Continent, but I’ve found out that e-bikes can’t be transported on ordinary passenger flights when the lithium battery watt-hour (Wh) rating is greater than 180, which is the case with my e-bike. Is there any way around this? Allan Seheult, email Sadly not, Allan. Following incidents where lithium ion batteries have burst into flames aboard planes, tighter restrictions have come into force. Do check the Civil Aviation Authorities guidelines and those of your carrier as there may be flexibility for hand luggage (if you can remove the battery) — Ed
