Castelli Sorpasso 2 £140

Cycling Weekly - - TECH GROUPTEST -

Castelli calls the Sorpasso’s Thermoflex Core2 fabric the ‘magic mix’ as it believes the nylon outer layer and hollow-core polyester inner layer are the perfect duo to keep you warm in a range of temperatures.

At the back is a built-in lumbar compression band to keep them in place around the waist while at the lower leg reflective strips are teamed with reflective ankle-zip storm flaps.

The women’s-specific Progetto X2 Air seat pad is comfortable if on the wide side. The fit is tight: like the Rapha Souplesse they have a ‘pro’ summer fit. But frustratingly the bib is almost too tight and it’s really noticeable across the upper back.

You need to work reasonably hard to get warm, but once there, the Sorpassos perfectly regulate your temperature by balancing breathability, insulation and wind resistance. With limited water resistance and a temperature range of 5-12°C they’re not for deepest winter, but to get you through autumn and spring the Sorpassos are great.
