Helmet use is not compulsory in the UK, and long may that freedom to choose continue. Regardless of your view on the matter it’s interesting to see the technology develop. Helmets are just compressed polystyrene and apart from styling, and the addition of the odd bit of carbon or plastic, not much has changed since they were first introduced. the ANGI technology is a nice addition (similar tech is also available on Garmins) but will live or die on its ability to avoid false positives and its usefulness when out of phone service. the option of setting an estimated ride time is all well and good but what about those days when you decide on the hoof to add an extra loop? MIPS is gaining popularity and has been simplified but it’s impossible to create studies that provide categorical proof of its effectiveness. Like with helmets themselves, if you think they’re a good idea, go for it. If not, missing the MIPS out can save you some cash.
