Brighten up on the bike

Cycling Weekly - - THE BIG QUESTION - Martin. J. Napier, email

Further to Malcolm Hargreaves's letter (CW Nov 29) may I add my support for his views on the all-pervading black or dark coloured kit now being seen so often?

I support Malcolm’s views totally, but I am saddened to note the editor’s view that “Black is the most practical colour for winter riding...”

The suggested use of LED lights is a 'obvious', but does not take away the fact that, at this time of year, with often poor visibility and dark backgrounds, black or dark grey upper clothing can and does merge into the background. This camouflages a rider very well to the obvious detriment of safety!

Why can’t clothing manufacturers not produce brighter colours? The potential to ‘kill off’ their customers by only offering such dark colours seems senseless to me.
