Friend in need’s Friend indeed
Supportive riding companion Ethan O’hara explains his part in Fonseca’s record-breaking endurance challenges
How did you become friends?
“I’ve known Celso for around six years, from when he first came into Evans
Cycles as a customer. We quickly built a rapport, which became a friendship and have been mates ever since. After realising we were the same type of rider — ‘go hard or go home’ — we gelled. What do you think of his cycling feats?
“I think he’s absolutely incredible! I could never imagine myself riding for 24 hours and at such a pace — no thanks! But Celso has the mindset that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”
Has cycling been a form of therapy for Celso?
“When I see him on the bike, he’s much happier than when he isn’t riding. Cycling gives him a freedom that nothing else in his life currently does, and that’s why he loves it.”
