CW: On your website you state right away that your club is for experienced riders. Do you worry about alienating beginners? GC:

No, not really, like we say this club is for riders wanting to race, we don’t hide that fact, and to that end we don’t have a beginner’s ride. We expect anyone who comes to join us will already have a decent level of fitness and we will help them improve that and to adapt the Muckle spirit.

CW: I can see looking at the demographic and listening to the banter that there is a healthy competitive spirit between the club’s fast riders. GC:

Yeah, and this is growing each year. We all egg each other on, push each other to ride harder in training, to improve our fitness, and also when we go to events now, we go with a plan to ride as a team.

CW: With a young club do you have trouble getting volunteers to help organise events? GC:

No, it’s very much part of the Muckle spirit to get stuck in and help run our events because they are an advert for our club. We’ve never had trouble finding marshals. Those not assigned a role will always turn out too, to add to the atmosphere in typical Muckle fashion.
