British club run 1980s

Cycling Weekly - - FROM THE ARCHIVE -

Midlands cyclists on a wintry 1980s club run put some miles under their wheels in preparation for the coming season. With nary a helmet in sight, not to mention under-seat folded tubs, sidepull brakes and comfort-fit jackets, there’s no disguising how this picture has aged.

But at the same time, the winter club run is a ritual repeated many times annually with the same goals in mind, the same invigorating rasp of cold air in the lungs, and that same ruddy-faced glow afterwards as you contemplate a job well done over a big mug of tea or soup when you get back home.

They’re certainly worth enjoying in their own right, and not just as a necessary chore in the preparation for the events of the summer.
