How would you make bunch sprinting safe?

■ I’m surprised nobody has mentioned taking all times at 3km to go (on stages that have been identified as sprint stages). Clock stops. Then it’s just up to a massively reduced bunch to sprint for the finish and the actual stage win. Much safer than 22 teams piling into the finish to make sure there are no splits. Mike Williams

■ Get rid of the downhill finishes for a start. They make the sprint exciting, but the high speed makes them extremely dangerous. The UCI should do as much as they can to improve safety before they start to put rules in place to punish riders. Matt Cowan

■ Fences like they do in ski racing. Maybe not the easiest to set up but they work. Petermurdoch Jockeys in horse racing are scrutinised and penalised for improper conduct regarding safe riding practices when taking a gap or run which inhibits the safety of other riders – they have a system of low range to high range offences which incur penalties ranging from reprimands, fines and suspensions. This proactive measure ensures the safety of riders and lessens the risk significantly. Julian Corboy

■ Bouncy castle barriers. Jude Garrod

■ How difficult can it be to have big hay bale-sized heavy foam barriers with heavy duty PVC coverings, linked together on the fans’ side, for the last 50 metres instead of metal barriers? Nigel Lewin

■ Air fence on the final 50 metres, stop blaming riders and make the problem/ challenge Uci/organiser. Andy Whitehouse

■ Painted lanes last 100 metres once in a lane cannot move out.

Graham Andrews

■ Have a hard shoulder on each side of sprint finish, a metre wide would do. A bail-out area where anyone straying in can’t win the stage but is not disqualified. Neil Whittenbury
