Did you enjoy the cold snap?

-

■ I for one am glad to see the back of it. Although the turbo is OK I much prefer being outside. But, oh my word, the roads are a mess; potholes and cracks all over the place. Iain Clark

■ All the salt, grit and filth on the roads. I did a 30 miler on the roads and my wife thought I’d gone off-roading in the fields my bike was that filthy. Empse Smith

■ I did enjoy riding in snow. I cycled through the snowy opening months of 1963 and remember wonderful snowy weekends youth hostelling in the Peak District a few years later. Road users were used to snow;

I was young, had a relaxed grip on my bars and assumed I would bounce if I came off. Riding a fixed wheel gave greater control and confidence. Thirty years ago, sitting at traffic lights, I watched as the car behind me braked hard and skidded into the kerb where I might have stopped. Whatever abilities, real or imagined, I might have in snow, I can’t control other road users. I haven’t cycled in snow since then. Stuart Buchanan

■ No excuses to be riding a road bike out in icy conditions. Replicate the workout on a turbo trainer to increase fitness more and protect the NHS at the same time. Alex Barber

■ I quite like a crisp cold morning for a ride. But nothing beats the long, warm spring/summer days for a ride. Sandra Phen

■ I was over it weeks ago. Bring on the sunshine. Roland Thomas

■ The only good type of snow for cycling is the stuff on the mountain tops in the background of a Tour de France picture. David Rose

■ My friend is currently working in a ski resort in Switzerland. Judging by their pics on Strava they’re rather enjoying it. Ray Cameron
