CW’S Club ‘10’ is anything but….

-

A time of 1hr25 for an evening club 10 might not sound like particularly great shakes – in fact it sounds almost unfeasibly slow. But what if the club 10 was accidentally extended to 38 miles (62km)?

That’s exactly what happened last Wednesday night when a technical hitch saw Cycling Weekly’s very own Club 10 on Zwift almost quadruple in length.

That eventual winner’s time of 1hr25 belonged to Matt Blue and, being equivalent to an impressive 27mph, suddenly looks very different to the tortoise-like mark it would have been for a standard length race. Blue was – incredibly – one of nine people to finish the race. Double Ride Ons and Kudos to them all!

It was a feat that was all the more impressive as unless they’d read the fine print, the event appeared to be just a standardlength ‘10’, complete with the requisite abject suffering, right up to the point where those 10 miles ticked by and just kept on going.

It appears to have been brought about by a hitch over at Zwift HQ when swapping distances between the Club 10 and our other race series, the Cycling Weekly Winter Lockdown road race series.

We’re sorry if you entered and were left a little perplexed or disgruntled when the finish gantry didn’t materialise when it should have. It’ll be back to the standard 10-mile format from now on. The virtual race takes place every Wednesday at 6pm, rotating between five different courses in the various Zwift worlds. Enter each week via the Zwift companion app or on www.zwift.com/events.
