Koo Spectro glasses £169
The Spectro Sunglasses, from the eyewear arm of helmet brand
Kask, were developed specifically for the Trek-segafredo men’s and women’s teams.
The Spectros offer a wide coverage, but not to the extremes of certain Oakley or 100% models.
Zeiss lenses are used throughout Koo’s range, with this model getting the Silver Mirror lens intended for brighter days.
The arms are quite curved to follow the shape of your temples and grip comfortably and securely. I really liked the adjustable nose bridge design with its definite clicks for different settings.
The full frame is a little more prominent in the field of vision compared to larger designs, but I stopped noticing the bottoms and tops of the frame once out riding. However, the large section of plastic in the corners did limit peripheral vision slightly.
Fogging on the road was never an issue. That said, when gravel riding in the woods – with extra humidity and slower speeds – I found they were a little more susceptible to fogging compared with lenses with an anti-fog coating.
Although the visible light transmission is only 11 per cent, I found I could happily wear the Spectros on even cloudy winter days, making them quite a versatile choice.
Our only criticisms are the price, which is a fair bit higher than some of the competition, and the slight obstruction of peripheral vision. Stefan Abram
