KEY MOMENTS
Stage 1 (women) Frauenfeld > Frauenfeld
The third category Herden climb that the women will tackle three times on the opening stage is the principal opportunity to open up a gap given the second of the two stages is a nailed-on bunch sprint. However, the final ascent comes 20km before the finish so it’ll be a challenge to make any gap stick.
Stage 5 (men) Gstaad > Leukerbad
After a bunch sprint and a few Classics-like stages the men come to the first summit finish at Leukerbad. Richie Porte took the leader’s jersey on a stage not dissimilar to this one ending in Leukerbad in 2018.
Stage 6 (men) Fiesch > Disentis Sedrun
The queen stage packs 3,724m of climbing mostly into the two gargantuan ascents of the Nufenenpass and the Lukmeiner pass. The final climb to Disentis-sedrun is only third category and averages just three per cent, however, it’s very rampy and so it may be possible to force gaps on tired legs here.
