British Cycling appoints Jon Dutton as new CEO
Dutton replaces acting CEO Danielle Every, who replaced former head Brian Facer in October
British Cycling has appointed Jon Dutton as its new CEO after a “robust and competitive” recruitment process, according to the sport’s national governing body.
Dutton, the former head of the Rugby League World Cup, is set to replace acting CEO Danielle Every, who replaced former head Brian Facer last October. BC has confirmed that Dutton is set to formally begin the role later this month.
Prior to starting with BC, Dutton spent time working for the PGA European Tour; UEFA, where he worked on logistics and transport for the Champions League final in 2003; and the 2014 Tour de France Grand Départ, where he was director of readiness helping to organise the first two stages of the race in Yorkshire.
In a press release from the governing body, Dutton – a BC member and cycling fan – said “it is a privilege to be appointed as chief executive of British Cycling” and that while “the current landscape for all sports is challenging, there are also boundless opportunities for growth”.
He added that he was “looking forward to meeting many of the people that contribute to ensuring that British Cycling continues to nurture talent, positively impact communities, and harness the success of our country’s best riders to grow the sport at every level”.
On the appointment of Dutton, BC chair Frank Slevin said: “The Board and I were hugely impressed by the breadth of Jon’s experience both within cycling and in the wider sport sector, alongside his ability to lead teams with purpose and drive them towards strategic and commercial success.”
Slevin added now was an “important time” for BC as it “looks to support the sport domestically and prepare our Great Britain Cycling Team riders for August’s UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and across Scotland”.
