Goodyear Vector 4Seasons £64.95

-

There are three strings to the Vector 4Seasons’ bow in terms of technology. Puncture resistance is provided by the combination of an R:shield strip under the tread and R:armor bead-tobead reinforced anti-cut material. In addition, Dynamic:silica4 rubber oers improved wet-weather grip and abrasion resistance while keeping rolling resistance to a minimum according to Goodyear. The final element is the ‘Tubeless Complete’ liner that improves air retention and adds a further line of defence against punctures. Four widths and two colour options should cater for most riders.

Installation was straightforward with a couple of tyre levers and a blast of the Airshot, but, despite the Tubeless Complete claims, both tyres needed regular top-ups before riding. Not the end of the world, but they did not hold air as well as some of the other tyres on test. On the plus side, both weight and width were pretty much bang on, so on wider rims they would oer even more volume.

The Vector 4Seasons absorbed the vibrations and imperfections well, making them comfortable on longer rides. I didn’t feel that they quite oered the zip or performance of the Schwalbes or Continentals, with a slightly more draggy and less responsive feel, but they were by no means bad to ride – unless you rode them back-to-back you wouldn’t notice a dierence. I had no issues with grip, despite some pretty grim weather conditions and some deliberately severe braking tests.
