This tiny bottle holds just 59ml of lube, which works out at 54p per millilitre, several times the cost of most wet lubes – but Silca insists it’s worth it. The oil-based lubricant derives from F1 technology and claims to reduce friction to the point where it almost completely eliminates wear in metal components.

It works by creating a protective layer on the chain links called a tribofilm when tungsten disulphide is combined under pressure with another secret ingredient. The result, boasts Silca, is a 98.1% efficiency rating at 250 watts.

What that means in real terms is hard to quantify, but it’s easy to apply and one bottle should keep you running smoothly for up to 20,000km.
