Sussex-based wheel brand Hunt has released the 60 Limitless Aero, the deepest rims yet in its premium road range.

While the 60mm deep section aids straightline speed, the company says it spent a lot of time in the wind-tunnel to ensure that the wheel handles like a much shallower rim to provide ‘consistent and predictable bike handling during varying side wind conditions’.

The secret, according to Hunt, lies in the interface between the rim and tyre, which is why the 60 Limitless boasts a wide 21mm internal rim width and 34mm external width. When combined with a 25mm or 28mm tyre the resulting shape aims to minimise the turbulence that comes when deep rims meet side winds. This is designed to allow the rider to maintain an aerodynamic body position during races regardless of conditions.

All that material should make for a bulky wheel, but Hunt uses what it calls ‘low-density carbon’ to keep the weight to a very respectable 1,669g for the pair. Anyone looking to squeeze out a little bit of extra speed can upgrade from steel bearings to super-smooth Ceramicspeed bearings for an extra £260.
