Brexit all over again: Britain vs Europe

Former team boss Paul Lamb on the cost of racing at home and abroad

-

‘In most higher-level UCI races in Europe [.1 or above category], the race organiser will offer to pay UCI Continental teams their accommodation costs for stage races. At this level, they’ll also pay an appearance fee of, on average, €1,000 for a stage race and €3,500 for a one-day race. Every race is different, and these amounts vary.

‘Back in Britain, we pay race entries for UK national road and circuit series events plus the Tour Series circuit races,’ Lamb adds. ‘This is about £35-45 per rider. For the Tour de Yorkshire, ASO paid us around €1,000 plus accommodation.

For the Tour of Britain, Sweetspot only covered accommodation.’
