Mayor and Co clean up at a charity car wash

-

A FUN-PACKED car wash has been held at a Cynon Valley fire station to raise money for charity.

Abercynon Fire Station hosted the event as part of Rhondda Cynon Taff mayor Rhys Lewis’ drive to raise money for the Mayoral Charity Appeal.

Many individuals and community groups grabbed sponges and hoses to lend their efforts to the event.

The mayor, who is also a local councillor for Abercynon, said: “I was joined on the day by Scouts, Beavers and Cubs from St Fagans Trecynon, and representatives from my five chosen charities including Giving to Pink Adref Charity Shop, Pontypridd Action for Children Cymru and New Horizons.

“Members of the Ambulance Service, the Abercynon Paddling Pool Committee and Reverend Sarah Ann Rogers of St Donat’s Church in Abercynon also joined us.

“The crew at Abercynon Fire Station were very welcoming and washed cars throughout the day, and I would like to thank them for allowing us the use of the station – and also for allowing me to fulfil my childhood ambition of climbing the fire station tower!”

Some 50 cars were washed during the day despite the terrible weather, and the event raised close to £300 for the five mayoral charities and the Fire Fighters Charity.

“A big thank-you to all those who helped on the day, and motorists who popped in to have their cars cleaned,” Coun Lewis added.
