WRU NATIONAL BOWL ROUND TWO

-

HIRWAUN ...................... 0 TREHERBERT .............. 52

TREHERBERT travelled to Hirwaun to play for their place in the next round of the National Bowl and the Mid District Cup.

Hirwaun kicked the game off and it was clear to see that the visitors were determined not to be knocked out of the two competitions.

Straight away Treherbert went on the attack and within minutes Lloyd Batstone crossed for the first try of the match.

The home side seemed unable to get into the game with Treherbert taking any opportunity to score, as Lloyd Batstone crossed for his second try in less than 10 minutes.

Well-drilled set pieces and good passing between the whole team allowed Treherbert to open up the Hirwaun defence, giving Matthew Jones and Sam Hodder and opportunity to both cross for a try each.

Hirwaun were unable to make the most of any chance that they had during the first half, with errors preventing them from putting points on the board before the end of the half.

Treherbert kicked off the second half, and with the ball being kicked back and fore neither side had full control until Hirwaun were awarded the footing at a scrum.

The visitors were able to steal possession and attack downfield before the ball was passed out wide to Jay Wasley, who crossed for a try that was again converted by Lee Stone.

Hirwaun were unable to stop the visitors as gaps in their defence allowed Treherbert to move forward at every opportunity, gifting Ross Barclay the chance to score a try.

Treherbert were again able to pass the ball out wide to create a large gap in the home defence, allowing Jay Wasley to burst downfield before Ian Bradley crashed over for a try.

The visitors’ dominance of the game concluded with another try from Ross Barclay in the final minutes of the game, which was successfully converted by Lee Stone.

Treherbert walked away with a deserved clean sheet and a place in the next round of two competitions.

Treherbert’s next game is away to Gwernyfed. Kick-off 2.30pm.
