Cynon Valley

Help me survey Sunday transport

- Vikki Howells AM

OVER the past year, since being elected as Assembly Member for Cynon Valley, many people have contacted me to tell me about the problems they experience in trying to access public transport services.

In particular, there are challenges with a lack of bus and rail services on Sundays, making it difficult for people to commute for employment or leisure. This is simply unacceptable.

I have raised the matter with Stagecoach and Arriva Train Wales, and also with the First Minister of Wales, who agreed with me that for many people who need to work, Sundays are just like any other days. I hope that with the future development of the South Wales Metro, which seeks to build a fully integrated bus and train network, and with the renewal of the Wales and Borders rail franchise, there may be opportunities to put this right.

To do this, it is important to build the evidence base that there is a demand for improved Sunday services. I am therefore launching two surveys. The first, on train services, can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Q7MPB35. The second, to look at bus links, will be released in a month’s time.

The purpose is to assess local demand, and I would be grateful if Cynon Valley residents could take a few moments of their time to complete the surveys when available. These links can also be accessed directly through my Facebook page @VikkiHowellsAM or my Twitter page @VikkiHowells

I will update your readers on my campaign in due course.
