STAFF from a fast food restaurant got together to clean up a Cynon Valley beauty spot.

The eight volunteers from the McDonald’s restaurant in Aberdare joined forces and the park wardens last month to spruce up the Dare Valley Country Park.

They worked to collect eight bags of litter as well as paint fences around the area. The Depot Road restaurant also donated two bins after the litterpick had taken place to help ease the problem in future.

McDonald’s area manager Arlo Swinson, who looks after seven restaurants in the area including Depot Road, said: “I was really proud to see everyone come together and help tidy up the local area.

“It’s a key priority of ours to ensure that the local area remains free of litter and an enjoyable place to live, work and visit.

“As a business, we understand the important role that we play in making the area a better place.

“We’re really pleased to donate two bins to Dare Valley Country Park and hope we can continue making a difference.”

Aside from larger litter events such as these, McDonald’s says its restaurants patrol the streets at least three times a day to collect all litter that has been discarded, regardless of its origin.

Crew members across the UK cover a total of 3,000 miles each week on litter patrols, equating to 150,000 miles a year and the distance of five marathons each year per store.

The event was one of many McDonald’s cleanups across the UK as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s anti-littering campaign, Love Where You Live, encouraging local communities to take action and work together to tackle litter in their area.

Keep Britain Tidy chief executive Allison OgdenNewton said: “To win the war on litter, everyone needs to work together, with businesses having an exciting part to play.

“McDonald’s Love Where You Live initiative, together with their day-to-day commitment to tackling the problem through their litter patrols and their ongoing support of Keep Britain Tidy, is an example of how a business can make a real difference.”
