Rewind for clues to a killer’s past
RELLIK BBC One, Monday, 9pm
THIS major new six-part thriller, by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Liar), tells the story of a serial killer in reverse.
What makes a serial killer? Or the cops who relentlessly track them down?
Rellik (“killer” spelled backwards) turns the serial killer story on its head. The perpetrator is caught before the drama moves backwards in time to the very beginning – the crime itself and ultimately the killer.
The search for the killer provides the backbone of the story, but damaged and disfigured Met detective Gabriel Markham (Richard Dormer) is at its heart. Enigmatic and charismatic, Gabriel is propelled in an obsessive hunt for a murderer who left a mark on him both physically and mentally.
DCI Gabriel Markham and his partner Elaine (Jodi Balfour) – a bright and intense detective, eager to please – are working to find a serial killer, when a break in the case leads them to a potential culprit.
Gabriel is torn between his conviction that they already know who the killer is, and the seemingly irrefutable evidence found at the last murder scene.
Meanwhile, there are fears that Gabriel’s intimate connection to the case may be skewing his professional ability to track down the perpetrator, and he is presented with an ultimatum.
The rest of Gabriel’s team are dealing with the conflict of their own personal and professional lives as they launch a thrilling, high-stakes operation to catch the killer. But are they targeting the right person?
