A BRAND-NEW coffee shop has opened at a Cynon Valley school after its name was chosen by students.

According to Mountain Ash Comprehensive School, its new offering Expresso Yourself, which opened following a refit and refurbishment work over the summer holidays, is proving to be very popular.

It’s based on the theme of a contemporary highstreet coffee shop and has replaced the school’s former kitchen area after it was redesigned and reconstructed during the summer holidays.

It follows investment by Rhondda Cynon Taf council, and headteacher Samantha Evans said: “The addition of Expresso Yourself to our school environment enriches our provision and is already proving to be very popular.

“Gone are the days of a typical school canteen, we have a modern, 21stcentury facility which is in fitting with our modern surroundings.

“Everyone associated with our school appreciates the investment that has been made by Rhondda Cynon Taf council.”

The works at Mountain Ash Comprehensive School are in excess of £400,000 and form part of the council’s school modernisation programme.

It’s part of the local authority’s wider programme to provide modern din- ing facilities at its schools, and students selected the name themselves.

Serving up hot and cold drinks as well as a menu with “affordable” prices, the council says the cafe allows students and staff to enjoy the company of their friends and classmates in a relaxed atmosphere.

Coun Rosser, cabinet member for education and lifelong learning, said: “I was delighted to visit Expresso Yourself and to see the wonderful new and sophisticated facility at the school.

“It is clearly a hit with pupils and demonstrates the impact we want to have with our ongoing investment to improve and modernise our schools.

“Working with the school and its pupils, the council has been able to design and deliver a facility they can feel rightly proud of.”
