Nos Galan shortlisted for running award
THE Nos Galan Road Races has once again been shortlisted for a top running award.
Winners of the UK’s Best Fun Run Award in 2014, organisers of the world-famous event in Mountain Ash on New Year’s Eve are now hoping to reclaim the title at this year’s UK Running Awards.
It follows the latest event on December 31, when a total of 1,700 people took part with almost 10,000 spectators lining the route to cheer them on.
There was also a packed congregation at St Gwynno’s Church, Llanwonno, for the annual Guto Nyth Bran Memorial Service.
The 2017 Nos Galan Mystery Runners were former boxer Nathan Cleverly and former Wales and Lions rugby star Colin Charvis.
Coun Ann Crimmings, cabinet member for environment and leisure, and also chair of the Nos Galan Committee, said: “The Nos Galan Road Races are as popular today as ever before, and this was once again highlighted on New Year’s Eve 2017.
“It is once again a huge honour for our event to be shortlisted as one of the Best Fun Runs in the UK – please show us your support by voting for us.
“These prestigious awards celebrate the cream of the running industry in the UK - and the Nos Galan Road Races is firmly established as a major family event, which attracts participants and spectators from all around the world.
“To win the UK Running Award in 2014 was amazing for all organisers associated with the Nos Galan Road Races.
To win it again in 2018 would be a fitting tribute to our race founder Bernard Baldwin MBE, who sadly passed away in 2017.
“Let’s make the Nos Galan Road Races the official Best Fun Run in Britain once again!”
The UK Running Awards is an annual ceremony celebrating the best of running and its culture around the country.
Nos Galan has again been shortlisted in the UK’s Best Fun Run category, up against 11 other events held across the country.
