Appeal after dog found covered in bite marks

THESE shocking pictures show what badger-digging or dog-fighting can do to a dog.

The border terrier was found near the Pontcynon Industrial Estate in Abercynon on Sunday, July 8, covered in bite wounds and in a lot of pain.

RSPCA Cymru say it is believed he was involved in badger-digging or dogfighting.

After being given immediate pain relief, antibiotics and being put on a drip to nurse him back to health, the dog – called Buster by RSPCA staff – is on the road to recovery.

He is receiving veterinary care at the RSPCA’s clinic in Merthyr Tydfil and is said to be doing really well following an operation on his ear and his back.

Senior clinician Jonathan Fitzmaurice said: “Buster has needed a lot of treatment over the past few weeks due to his serious injuries, but he is doing so well.

“An operation was needed to remove his ear – which was severely injured – and for the the skin on his back that had died off.

“The large wound on his back has now got a lot smaller – down to a quarter of the size of what it was when he came in.

“He’s also now been neutered.

“Despite all he has been through, he is such a happy dog and is adored by all the staff here, along with the inspectorate who pop in. He loves getting attention and is a lovely little dog.”

Once Buster has fully recovered, he will be transferred to an RSPCA animal centre where he will be put up for adoption.

RSPCA inspector Julie Fadden said: “He has some truly awful injuries – including a deep, gaping neck wound and numerous bite marks.

“Given his injuries, I am deeply concerned that this poor border terrier has been used for badgerdigging or dog-fighting.

“Old scars and injuries are evident on the body of the dog too, as are claw marks down the sides of his neck.”

Anyone with any information about what happened to Buster is being asked to contact the RSPCA immediately by calling 0300 123 8018.
