target of 171 off 36 overs but it mattered little as they were skittled out for 87 in 27.3.

The defeat for Newbridge was a blow to their title hopes although, crucially, they do still have a game in game while they and Miskin clash again at the Newbridge Welfare Ground on August 25 in what could go some way to deciding the destination of the title.

In Division Two, leaders Monmouth’s title charge continues after they won by 10 wickets against Ponthir under D/L.

Ponthir were all out for 108 after being inserted with Paul Swingwood and Alim Hansraj both picking up three wickets.

Then after a lengthy spell of rain Monmouth were given a revised target of 66 off 26 overs but they got them in 8.2 overs with Josh Grey’s unbeaten 44 leading them to victory with a minimum of fuss.

That win edged Monmouth 17 points clear of nearest challengers Blackwood Town – who got going into their clash with Crumlin at Highfields but the game was abandoned 34 overs into the first innings.

Division Three title chasers Sully Centurions were five-wicket winners at Machen.

The hosts, who won the toss and elected to bat, were all out for 135.

But Sully knocked off the runs required in 20.3 overs with David Goodway leading them to their target on 31 not out.

The scheduled was decimated lower down with some matches cancelled without a ball being bowled while many that got going were abandoned without completion.

Opener Luke Benjamin scored a brilliant 94-ball 119 for Llantwit Fardre against leaders Newport thirds in Division Four, helping his side to 248-7 off 40 overs – but they were never able to get ball in hand.

However there was joy in Division Seven for Newport Fugitives thirds who enjoyed a thumping 114-run victory at Penarth fourths.

Vela Ravi struck 105 not out as the Fugies scored 230-6 batting first before Dean Morgan took over with the ball, picking up 5-16 as Penarth were all out for 116 in reply.
