Bands tune up for Eisteddfod competitions
BANDS taking part in the 2018 National Eisteddfod at Cardiff are as follows:
Saturday, August 4
■ 9.30am Section 4 –
Dyffryn Nantlle (Gwenllian Jones), Gwaun Cae Gurwen (Robert Burnett), Ogmore Valley (Alice Jones), Upper Rhondda (Jayne Thomas).
■ 10.50am Section 2 –
Blaenavon Town (David J Langley), Crwbin Silver (Craig Roberts), Melingriffith 2 (Dafydd Thomas), Newport Borough (Robin Hackett), RAF St Athan (Alan Bourne), Ynyshir (Gary Davies).
■ 3.25pm Championship & Section 1 Combined –
BTM (Jeff Hutcherson), Ebbw Valley (Gareth Ritter), Deiniolen (Lois E Jones), Tylorstown (Gary Davies), Lewis Merthyr (Craig Roberts), Llanrug
(Gavin N Saynor), Burry Port (Nigel Seaman).
4th Section results announced at 2.25pm; 2nd Section at 2.30pm and Championship/1st Section at 5.50pm.
Sunday, August 5
■ 3.25pm Section 3 –
Briton Ferry (Jeff Pearce), Newtown Silver (Steve Edwards), RAF St Athan (Alan Bourne), Taff Vale (Gareth Ritter), Ynyshir (Gary Davies).
■ Many congratulations to Alan Bourne and RAF St Athan Voluntary Band who will be competing for the 26th consecutive year.
Lewis Merthyr and RAF St Athan bands combined to take part in last week’s Welsh Proms under the baton of Owain Arwel Hughes.
It was a great night of brass and voices in the St David’s Hall and the choirs taking part were Bridgend, Cwmbach, Côr Meibion Morlais and Côr Meibion Pontarddulais.
